Improving Your Smile Without Overdoing It
Cosmetic dentistry covers the treatments that change how your teeth look — their colour, shape, alignment and proportion. Done well, nobody should be able to point at what was done. They should just notice that you look well.
The best cosmetic result usually comes from the smallest intervention that achieves it. Whitening before veneers. Bonding before crowns. Aligners before reshaping. We would rather do less to your teeth and keep more of them intact, because enamel does not grow back.
Before any cosmetic work, we check that the foundations are sound. Active decay or gum inflammation has to be treated first — there is no point building something attractive on an unstable base.
Cosmetic Treatments We Offer
Which of these suits you depends on your teeth, your budget and how much change you actually want.
Teeth Whitening
Professional whitening that lifts staining from tea, coffee, tobacco and age. Supervised, so the concentration and duration suit your teeth.
Porcelain Veneers
Thin custom shells bonded to the front of the teeth to correct shape, shade and minor alignment in one step.
Cosmetic Bonding
Tooth-coloured composite sculpted directly onto the tooth to repair a chip, close a small gap or reshape an edge. Usually a single visit.
Tooth Contouring
Careful reshaping of uneven or pointed edges. A very small change here often makes a noticeable difference to how even a smile looks.
Gum Contouring
Reshaping an uneven gum line, or one that shows a lot when you smile, so the teeth appear better proportioned.
Smile Makeovers
A planned combination of the above, sequenced so each stage builds on the last rather than being done piecemeal.
Why Patients Choose Dental Leaf for Cosmetic Work
Health Comes First
We treat decay and gum problems before cosmetic work. Anything else is building on sand.
The Conservative Option First
If whitening and bonding will get you most of the way there, we will suggest that before recommending veneers.
Honest About Outcomes
We will tell you plainly what is achievable for your teeth, and say so if what you are asking for is not advisable.
Shade Matched Carefully
Colour is assessed properly so a new restoration does not sit obviously against your natural teeth.
Clear, Itemised Estimates
Cosmetic treatment is elective and often staged. You get the full cost in writing before anything starts.
No Pressure
Take the plan away and think about it. Cosmetic dentistry is your decision, and there is no rush.
How Cosmetic Treatment Works
Cosmetic work is planned before it is started. That planning is what separates a good result from a regrettable one.
1. Understanding What You Want
We start with what actually bothers you about your smile, which is often something quite specific and easily addressed.
2. Health Assessment
A full examination to check the teeth and gums can support the treatment you are considering.
3. Planning and Preview
We discuss options and, where useful, show you what a proposed change would look like before committing to it.
4. Preparing the Teeth
For veneers or crowns, a small amount of enamel is shaped. For whitening or bonding, little or no preparation is needed.
5. The Treatment
Carried out over one or more visits depending on what is planned, with temporary restorations where they are required.
6. Review and Refine
We check the fit, bite and appearance once everything has settled, and adjust if anything needs it.
Keeping Your Results Looking Good
Cosmetic work needs the same care as natural teeth, and a little consideration besides. Brush twice daily and clean between the teeth — the margin where a veneer or bonding meets the tooth is exactly where decay likes to start.
Whitening and composite bonding will pick up stain over time from tea, coffee, red wine and tobacco. Cutting down helps, and rinsing with water after them helps more than most people expect.
If you grind your teeth at night, tell us. Grinding is the fastest way to chip a veneer or wear down bonding, and a night guard is a small price for protecting the work.
Porcelain does not respond to whitening. If you plan to whiten at some point, do it before veneers or crowns are made, so the shades can be matched to the final colour.
