The Everyday Care That Keeps Everything Else Simple
General dentistry is the foundation of everything else we do. It covers the routine examinations, cleanings, fillings and advice that keep small problems small — and stop them turning into the kind that need a crown, a root canal or an extraction.
Most dental problems are painless at the start. Decay between two teeth, early gum disease or a hairline crack in a filling will not hurt until they are well established. That is the whole point of a regular check-up: we find these things while they are still quick and inexpensive to fix.
At Dental Leaf in Irumbuliyur, West Tambaram, we look after patients of every age, from a child’s first visit through to complex care in later life. If it has been a while since your last appointment, you will not get a lecture — just a clear picture of where things stand and a plan you are comfortable with.
What General Dentistry Includes
Everything in this list is part of routine care at our West Tambaram clinic.
Dental Check-Ups
A full examination of your teeth, gums, bite and soft tissues, with X-rays only where they will actually tell us something useful.
Scaling and Polishing
Professional removal of the hardened plaque that brushing cannot shift, particularly along the gum line and between the teeth.
Tooth-Coloured Fillings
Composite fillings that restore a decayed or chipped tooth and blend with your natural shade rather than standing out.
Gum Health Treatment
Assessment and treatment of bleeding, swollen or receding gums, which are the leading cause of adult tooth loss.
Tooth Extractions
When a tooth genuinely cannot be saved, removal carried out gently under local anaesthetic, with clear aftercare instructions.
Emergency Dental Care
Same-day slots for severe pain, a broken tooth, a lost filling or swelling. Call us rather than waiting for it to settle.
Why Patients Choose Dental Leaf for Everyday Care
Care for the Whole Family
Children, parents and grandparents can be seen at the same practice, which makes appointments far easier to organise.
We Explain, Then You Decide
You will be shown what we have found and told what your options are, including the option to wait and watch where that is reasonable.
No Pressure to Overtreat
If a tooth is stable and does not need work, we will tell you so and keep an eye on it at your next visit.
Written Estimates First
Any treatment beyond the examination is quoted before it starts, so you always know where you stand.
Nervous Patients Welcome
Tell us if you are anxious. We will go at your pace, explain each step and stop whenever you need a moment.
Open Six Days a Week
Monday to Saturday, 10 AM to 9 PM, so appointments can fit around work and school.
What Happens at a Dental Check-Up
A routine examination usually takes around 30 minutes. Nothing happens without your agreement.
1. A Short Conversation
We ask about your medical history, any medication you take, and anything that has been bothering you since your last visit.
2. Examining Your Teeth
Each tooth is checked for decay, wear, cracks and failing fillings, including the surfaces you cannot see in the mirror.
3. Checking Your Gums
We measure and assess gum health, because bleeding gums are an early warning sign that is easy to miss at home.
4. Soft Tissue Check
A routine look at your tongue, cheeks, palate and throat. This screening takes moments and matters a great deal.
5. X-Rays If Needed
Modern digital X-rays use a low dose and show decay between teeth and around roots that an examination alone cannot reveal.
6. Your Plan
We talk through what we found, what needs doing now, what can wait, and roughly what it will cost.
Looking After Your Teeth Between Visits
What you do at home matters more than what we do twice a year. Brush for two full minutes, twice a day, with a fluoride toothpaste — and clean between your teeth daily with floss or interdental brushes, because a toothbrush simply cannot reach those surfaces.
Spit after brushing rather than rinsing, so the fluoride stays on your teeth. Try to keep sugary food and drink to mealtimes rather than grazing through the day; it is how often sugar hits your teeth, not the total amount, that drives decay.
Book an appointment sooner than planned if a tooth becomes sensitive, your gums bleed regularly, or something simply feels different. It is nearly always easier to fix early.
